Munya Chimba is not just a business leader – he is a force reshaping logistics and retail across Southern Africa. From starting as an accounts clerk to establishing SITT Group, Chimba’s journey is a blueprint in strategic vision, operational excellence, and bold entrepreneurship. For investors, business leaders, and market disruptors, his career offers actionable lessons in growth, efficiency, and scaling enterprises in complex African markets.
From Numbers to Strategy: Building a Strong Foundation
Chimba’s story begins with a mastery of fundamentals. Excelling at Kutama High School with A-Level passes in Accounting, Literature, and Management of Business, he advanced to the University of Witwatersrand to pursue a Bachelor of Accounting. Early exposure to financial systems and analytical rigor laid the groundwork for his future success.
Starting in 2006 as an Accounts Clerk at Frontline Cash & Carry, Chimba quickly demonstrated precision and discipline. His rise to Equity Aviation Services – managing creditor reconciliations and payment preparation – highlighted his technical prowess and attention to detail. These formative years provided him not only with operational skills but also a mindset for solving complex financial challenges.
Sanlam: Crafting Leadership Through Finance
In 2007, Chimba joined Sanlam Developing Markets, a leading financial services firm in Africa. Over seven years, he ascended from Accounts Payable Clerk to Financial Controller. In this role, he oversaw budgeting, variance analysis, general ledger operations, and financial system implementation. His ability to manage large-scale projects with precision established him as a trusted leader.
Sanlam was more than a workplace – it was a crucible where Chimba developed both strategic thinking and operational leadership, skills he would later leverage to transform retail and logistics ventures.
Shingai Group: Turning Vision Into Market Impact
2014 marked a pivotal chapter in Chimba’s career as Head of Operations at Shingai Group. Tasked with managing SPSK Enterprises, a supplier of Zimbabwean goods to South Africa, he envisioned and created African Basket in 2016 – a retail brand that redefined ethnic food retail across the country.
Under his leadership, African Basket expanded from a single Midrand outlet to 16 stores across three provinces by 2022, complemented by a cutting-edge milling operation producing over 20 tonnes of mealie meal daily. Chimba’s hands-on approach to procurement, logistics, and operational efficiency proved that visionary leadership paired with execution excellence can scale businesses rapidly.
SITT Group: Entrepreneurship with African Ambition
Chimba’s entrepreneurial instincts culminated in 2022 with the launch of SITT Group, a company designed to tackle Africa’s logistics and retail challenges head-on. Specializing in logistics management, retail consulting, and property management, SITT Group is at the forefront of streamlining cross-border trade.
The logistics division is the backbone of the operation, offering freight forwarding, truck management, SARS compliance, and seamless cross-border clearing. Meanwhile, the retail consulting arm helps businesses optimize procurement, pricing, and operations. Together, these solutions deliver measurable growth for clients navigating Africa’s diverse markets.

Munya Chimba is more than a founder; he is a strategic architect for African trade and retail. His career demonstrates resilience, adaptability, and the ability to scale complex operations. Investors and partners see SITT Group not just as a company, but as a platform where efficiency, insight, and African ingenuity converge.
As SITT Group continues to grow, Chimba is expanding opportunities, bridging trade gaps, and creating value across borders.
